I would tend to agree with you, except that I think Google also tracks user behavior tied to an IP or maybe an IP/browser combo... maybe cookies too. So it might not be quite as easy as logging out of your Google Account (though logging out certainly DOES change the results that I saw, just maybe not to fully unpersonalized).
