Update: Download the Thesis and WP Review Site Integration Guide and avoid the hassle of re-inventing the wheel.
With so many WordPress users switching over to The Thesis Theme, there are a lot of users who are looking to integrate plugins that used to be easier to add in.
As I mentioned in this post, the only thing I don’t like about Thesis is that adding plugins to your theme files is supposed to be done in the custom functions. This involved writing hooks and using PHP. Most intermediate webmasters are proficient in HTML, but PHP is much less forgiving. This problem is leaving a lot of webmasters frustrated. Enter Thesis OpenHook.
Now Thesis OpenHook is a plugin written by the wonderful Rick Beckman. This plugin helps works around the Custom Functions file and let’s you add HTML and execute PHP from a nice user interface. Better than before, but you still need to know PHP.
So when a client recently approached me with a request to integrate Dan Grossman’s WordPress Review Site Plugin into the Thesis Theme, I had to stop and think about the best way. (PS: Shout out to Dan who jumped in to answer a support question within a couple hours of asking. Thanks, man.
For the do-it-yourselfers out there, I’ll tell you that it involves some PHP, Openhook, and (depending on how pretty you want the end result to be) you may need to make an edit to one core file.
For those of you who don’t want to preform Thesis surgery, feel free to contact me and I can do it for you. And a lovely integration won’t break the bank either.
