Cafe Apropo in Victorian Village for laptop chilling… wine… and coffee.

About a year and a half ago, I was in Columbus visiting family. I was living in New York at the time, and was tired of the East Coast mentality.

Stopping into Cafe Apropo in Victorian Village was the turning point for me. It helped me decide to come back to Columbus… even if it did take a year.

And it’s funny. When I was here 1 1/2 years ago, I imagined myself doing web design and seo… living “downtown” (at that time, I didn’t even know enough about Columbus to distinguish Vic. Village from the Short North, Italian Village, or Grandview… it was all “downtown”… lol) and working at a bar to meet people. My daydream also included biking around town and catching up with old friends.

Without realizing it, I ended up doing all of these things… and now that I’ve moved to Victorian Village from German Village, I find myself biking past this coffee shop everyday. It’s a good feeling to be reminded that I’m leading the life that I had daydreamed about.

It’s not that Cafe Apropo is the best coffee shop in Columbus, or even that it is a “purple cow” in any sense. But everything about Apropo is in balance. It has great lighting, un-obtrusive music and staff, and is comfy. Yeah, “comfy”.
